Professor Beverley Vollenhoven AM is one of Melbourne's leading fertility specialists with over 25 years of experience at Monash IVF. She is Head of Gynaecology at Monash Health, Deputy Head of Monash University's Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, and a clinician at Monash IVF since 1996.
Pioneering Career
Prof Vollenhoven was the first female O&G trainee in Victoria to be awarded a PhD and the first O&G trainee in Victoria to take maternity leave – initially met with considerable resistance, academic and special leave is now common in specialist medical training. She continues to advocate for gender equality through her position as Chair of the Women in Medicine and Science committee at Monash University.
Research Achievements
Her groundbreaking research into IVF has shown that the rate of miscarriages among older IVF patients can decrease substantially – from one in two to one in five – if embryos are transferred at a later stage of development. She has more than 170 publications in journals and books, with a clinical and research interest in uterine fibroids (leiomyomas).

Professional Leadership
She has been Chairperson of the Victorian Regional Committee of RANZCOG and serves on the Examinations Committee. She is on the Advisory Committee for Prescription Medicines (Therapeutic Goods Administration) and is a Board Member of the Fertility Society of Australia. This doctor has participated in LGBTIQ+ Diversity & Inclusion training.
