Associate Professor Jim Tsaltas is recognised as a world leader in endometriosis, endoscopic surgery, and IVF. Often referred to as Australia's 'doctor's doctor,' A/Prof Tsaltas brings over 25 years of expertise in IVF and infertility treatment, having commenced his career as a Fellow to the pioneer of IVF, the late Professor Carl Wood. As Clinical Director at Melbourne IVF and Head of the Gynaecological Endoscopy and Endometriosis Unit at Monash Health, he combines exceptional surgical skill with compassionate patient care.

Training and Background

A/Prof Tsaltas completed his postgraduate training in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery in the UK in 1992-1993, followed by two additional years at Monash in 1994-1995. He began his IVF training in 1995 under IVF pioneers Professor Carl Wood and Gab Kovacs at Monash IVF. In 2000, he moved his infertility and IVF practice to Melbourne IVF, where he is now Clinical Director and one of the group's most senior specialists.

He is a lecturer at Monash University and holds the position of Training Director for the Monash/AGES Laparoscopic Training Program, shaping the next generation of surgical specialists.

Research and Professional Leadership

A/Prof Tsaltas is a founding member of the Endometriosis Care Centre of Australia and Past President of the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES). He served as a board member of the International Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (ISGE). His research interests focus on the impact of severe endometriosis and adenomyosis on IVF outcomes, genetic and stem cell markers for endometriosis, and surgical management of severe disease.
