Associate Professor Kate Stern is one of Australia's leading fertility preservation specialists, having established and coordinated the Fertility Preservation Services at the Royal Women's Hospital and Melbourne IVF for over 20 years. As Clinical Director and Head of Clinical Research at Melbourne IVF, Acting Head of Reproductive Services at the Royal Women's Hospital, and Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne, she brings unparalleled expertise in helping patients preserve their fertility before cancer treatment and other life events.
Training and Background
A/Prof Stern completed her medical training at the University of Melbourne, followed by specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology at The Women's Hospital and The Mercy Hospital. She enhanced her expertise during two years in the United Kingdom before returning to complete three years of subspecialty training in infertility and reproductive endocrinology, earning her CREI qualification and Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG).
Research and Publications
A/Prof Stern has authored and co-authored over 45 research papers published in scientific journals. She currently co-chairs the COSA Medical Fertility Preservation Guidance development group and is a member of the international Pancare working group for development of European Fertility Preservation Guidelines. The Fertility Preservation Service she established was the first dedicated service in Australia and continues to lead clinical programs and research in this field.
