Dr Michael Bardsley is a founding partner of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Ballarat (OGB) and a fertility specialist at Ballarat IVF. With over 30 years in medicine and a unique career path that took him from general practice back to specialist training, he brings a wealth of experience and deep understanding of patient care to his practice.

Dr Bardsley has a very busy obstetric practice, delivering around 200 babies each year, alongside an active gynaecological practice with particular expertise in pelvic floor surgery, incontinence, advanced laparoscopic surgery, and fertility treatment. He is accredited as an AGES (Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society) trainer and is committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of specialists.

He remains deeply committed to Ballarat and the surrounding region, providing visiting gynaecological services to multiple regional communities to ensure women have access to specialist care close to home.

Training & Background

Dr Bardsley graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1989. He first experienced obstetrics and gynaecology during 1993 when he spent twelve months at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, working alongside Dr Russell Dalton (who would later become his OGB colleague).

Following this, Dr Bardsley entered general practice and spent nearly ten years in Bacchus Marsh as a GP, where obstetrics was the primary focus of his work. His enduring love for obstetrics led him to make the challenging decision to retrain as a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist. He completed his FRANZCOG in 2009.

Since 2007, Dr Bardsley has worked with Ballarat IVF, helping patients achieve their dream of parenthood. He was a founding partner of OGB and has played a key role in developing the practice into Western Victoria's largest obstetrics and gynaecology service. He also provides visiting gynaecological services to Ararat, Maryborough, Kyneton, and Bacchus Marsh, and is the Director of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at East Grampians Health Service.

Dr Bardsley is committed to the development of OGB Surfcoast, providing consulting and operative services in Geelong at Epworth Geelong.
