Dr Michael Carter is an experienced obstetrician and gynaecologist practicing at Obstetrics & Gynaecology Ballarat (OGB) and Ballarat IVF. Originally from Horsham in Western Victoria, he has a strong commitment to providing specialist women's health care to regional communities.

Dr Carter considers it a great privilege to assist women throughout their pregnancy and delivery, and to share with families one of life's most significant events. He values the opportunity to care for women across all aspects of their reproductive health and has particular interests in obstetrics, laparoscopic surgery, infertility, and colposcopy.

He is known for his warm, approachable manner and his dedication to building trusting relationships with patients through open communication and compassionate care.

Training & Background

Dr Carter graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2005. He worked for two years at The Royal Melbourne Hospital before discovering his passion for obstetrics and gynaecology during a six-month rotation at the Royal Women's Hospital.

He commenced specialist O&G training in 2009, completing the first four years through the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, followed by twelve months at South West Healthcare in Warrnambool. In 2013, he joined OGB to complete the final two years of his fellowship training under Dr Russell Dalton, Dr Michael Bardsley, and Dr Katrina Guerin.

Dr Carter provides specialist services across multiple regional hospitals, ensuring women in Western Victoria have access to high-quality obstetric and gynaecological care close to home.
