About
Newcastle's Only Female CREI Fertility Specialist & Medical Director
Dr Myvanwy McIlveen is unique in that she is the only female college-certified infertility specialist outside the Sydney metropolitan area in NSW. She serves as Medical Director of Genea Newcastle and Chairperson of the Genea Medical Advisory Committee.
Training and Background
Dr McIlveen is Newcastle born and bred, growing up at Lake Macquarie before doing her degree at Newcastle University (Honours) and her Obstetrics and Gynaecology training at the John Hunter Hospital. She spent four years training in Sydney and at the University of Sheffield in England in infertility and IVF, completing both her subspecialist qualifications (CREI) and Master of Human Reproduction & Genetics. In 2005, she returned to her hometown of Newcastle as a specialist working with Genea.
Research Contributions
Her Masters research topic was in AMH and ovarian reserve (egg number) testing & optimising the embryo transfer technique using different catheters. She is an active member of the Fertility Society of Australia, American Society of Reproductive Medicine & the European Society for Human Reproduction & Embryology.
Patient Care Approach
She welcomes patients from Newcastle, the Hunter, Lake Macquarie, Gosford, Central Coast & Northern NSW. For remote country patients she offers Skype consultations. Dr McIlveen understands the process can be stressful and encourages patients to email and phone her directly for reassurance.
