Dr Sebastian Leathersich is the Medical Director of Concept Fertility and one of only three practising fertility specialists in Western Australia to hold the Certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) — the highest level of fertility training available in Australia. He is a widely respected specialist in IVF, male and female infertility, fertility preservation, oncofertility, reproductive endocrinology, and gynaecology.
Dr Leathersich combines academic excellence, extensive international experience, and genuine compassion to deliver world-class, evidence-based care to individuals and couples. He is a passionate advocate for inclusive and respectful fertility care, with a particular dedication to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community throughout their fertility journey and pregnancy.
Known for his commitment to minimising the emotional and physical burden of treatment wherever possible, Dr Leathersich works closely with patients to achieve their family-building goals through personalised, patient-centred care.

Training & Background
Dr Leathersich received his medical degree with Honours from the University of Western Australia in 2014. Driven by a passion for research, he pursued further studies overseas and was awarded First Class Honours for his thesis at the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Canada. He subsequently completed a maternal and perinatal health internship with the World Health Organisation in Geneva.
As a junior doctor, he obtained Master's degrees in both Public Health and Health Management, both conferred with Excellence. He completed his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth, where he was awarded the medal for the highest mark in the written Fellowship examinations across Australia and New Zealand. He also received the prestigious Camille Michener Award for Registrar of the Year and the David Liu and Tony McCartney prizes for his research.
Dr Leathersich undertook the advanced subspecialist CREI training under the mentorship of Professor Roger Hart, National Medical Director of City Fertility. In 2024–2025, he completed an advanced clinical fellowship at the world-renowned Dexeus Fertility Institute in Barcelona, Spain. He is currently completing a PhD at the University of Barcelona on the management of diminished ovarian reserve, supported by the prestigious Jean Murray Jones Scholarship.
Dr Leathersich commenced as Medical Director of Concept Fertility in July 2025.
Research & Leadership
Dr Leathersich is an active researcher with over 45 publications and more than 700 citations in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests include diminished ovarian reserve, the impact of environmental factors on IVF outcomes, and reproductive health across the lifespan.
Notable research includes groundbreaking work on how the season of egg collection affects IVF success rates, published in the prestigious journal Human Reproduction. This research found that transferring frozen embryos from eggs collected in summer resulted in 30% higher odds of live birth compared to eggs retrieved in autumn.
He currently holds several leadership positions including:

Dr Leathersich is an active teacher and mentor in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
