Dr Sonya Jessup is a fertility specialist, gynaecologist and laparoscopic surgeon with close to 30 years of experience in women's health and reproductive medicine. She is the Medical Director and founder of Shire IVF and The Elsa Clinic, both based in Miranda in Sydney's Sutherland Shire.

She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and holds a Master of Reproductive Medicine from the University of New South Wales.

Having personally undergone IVF treatment in her 40s and as a mother of five children, Dr Jessup brings genuine empathy and understanding to her patients' fertility journeys. She is known for her warm, compassionate approach and her commitment to creating a relaxed, supportive environment—what she calls "the happy place"—where patients feel at ease throughout their treatment.

Training & Background

Dr Jessup completed her medical training (BHB, MBChB) at the University of Auckland in 1994. She undertook undergraduate specialist training at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, then furthered her studies as a Fellow in Reproductive Medicine and Endocrinology for three years, achieving a Master of Reproductive Medicine (MReprodMed) from the University of New South Wales.

Her subspecialty training focused on advanced laparoscopic surgery and general gynaecological surgery. She has also attended training courses with the European Society of Cosmetic Gynaecology (ESAG) in Harley Street, London, and the International Cosmetic Gynaecology Conference (ICGC) in Dubai, UAE, expanding her expertise in functional and aesthetic gynaecology.

Dr Jessup has personally managed thousands of IVF and fertility cycles at both corporate-level and boutique IVF clinics. In 2019, she established The Elsa Clinic, a functional and aesthetic gynaecology clinic, and founded Shire IVF to provide accessible, personalised fertility care to patients in the Sutherland Shire and surrounding areas. She operates at Waratah Private Hospital.
