Dr Steve Raymond - Fertility Specialist in Newcastle
Dr Steve Raymond is Newcastle's most senior fertility specialist and advanced laparoscopic surgeon with more than 25 years of experience in his field. As the founding medical director of Hunter IVF, he is a nationally and internationally recognised expert in keyhole surgery, having performed hundreds of advanced laparoscopic procedures for women.
Training and Background
Steve graduated from Sydney University in 1978 before completing specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Newcastle, followed by two years' advanced training in foetal-maternal medicine in Glasgow, Scotland. He returned to Newcastle in 1987 and started in private practice, as well as taking a lecturing position in reproductive medicine at the University of Newcastle, where he spent four years researching the causes and treatment of recurrent miscarriage.
Pioneering Achievements
Having established the first prenatal and ultrasound foetal diagnostic unit in the Newcastle region, Dr Raymond was also the first to perform CVS and cordocentesis in the area. He holds appointments at John Hunter and Newcastle Private Hospitals, and continues to lead in both fertility treatment and advanced surgical techniques.
